Yeah, he got a little cute there. He had a nice lane to the net and a great shot/rebound opportunity.
I was hoping they could smack them in the nose and create some doubt, but this one could be a quick series. Kaprisov seems a little off to me, and they have no scoring depth.
I despise Vegas and the short runway they got when they started. It's ridiculous how good that team has been and how loaded they are eight years in the league.

What’s was up with Faber tonight? For a Guy who stood out at The 4 Nations, he was AWFUL tonight!
Overall I thought Wild played pretty well, just not good enough to beat a WAGON like Vegas
Faber definitely struggled. Spurgeon got knocked off the puck a lot, too. Must be playoff time.Well, he could have played that last sequence better.Zeev a little hesitant at times tonight.not terrible but he needs to react faster.

Faber was good tonight. Soft players don't look great in the playoffs, but Faber was good for the most part. Foligno, Rossi, and Gaudreau were the only players that I thought were really bad tonight. Gus made a few big saves but they aren't beating anyone if he gives up 2 bad goals a game.Well, he could have played that last sequence better.Zeev a little hesitant at times tonight.not terrible but he needs to react faster.

Wonder if Faber is nursing an injury that’s being withheld? He just hasn’t been himself last month? Maybe just worn out from long season , but I suspect something else is at play
You can’t win with one line against Vegas. Hynes needs to make a choice splitting lines or he’s hoping the kk line scores 3x a game. Offense basically nonexistent in the rest of the lineup tonight which makes sense as they’re all minus matchups vs Vegas
They gave up a PPG (I guess technically 2 if you count the ENG), Gus' SV% was less than desired and this team has no depth or grit. I dreaded them making the playoffs because this is exactly the type of outcome I expected going back to February at least.
I mean interference off the draw or not, where the heck was Gus on this?
Zuc was Casper the friendly Ghost tonight, boy he struggles mighty without KK, I’d swap Freddy & Rossi, Freddy isn’t a top 2 line center in any universe 🤣 & Rossi didn’t click with foligno & Nyquist. You can’t win with one line against Vegas. Meh. I don’t think they looked bad. Vegas is just better. It was refreshing to see it not devolve into a complete circus like games including an Evason team would.
I think Flower should play next game

I think Faber looked fine for the most part.
Zeev did hesitate a few times he should have acted sooner and would have been fine, but gotta expect some of that with a 3rd pair guy, and definitly in a first game.
On PP goal, was clear interference on Gaudreau. Messier said between periods, 'that should have been a penalty'. Then Gus was screened by Vegas player so couldn't see the pass across. And after Freddie was interfered with, Foligno went to cover Guy at point that Freddie would have been on if not lying on the ice, instead of staying with his guy who ended up scoring.
And how was the cross check to Hartman's face not a penalty??
Does feel like this could be a short series, but Wild played very structured game. Everything would have to go right given the depth difference in teams, but refs call interference and cross checking penalties and it could have been a different outcome.

What were the 2 bad goals? On PP he was screened and clearly didn't see the pass to the guy Foligno abandoned. One where the guy picked Faber's pocket the guy made incredible shot into small widow that he isn't going to hit 75% of the time. And Gus only had a second to react. No goalie covers 100% of a post. 3rd one was stoppable, but I wouldn't call it bad. A lot of goalies give up a goal there. There were a few breakdowns and a missed penalty to give up some of the best chances. Faber gets picked. They give up a couple breakaways. Foligno leaves his assignment. I don't put most of the blame on Gus.
@koho I guess the point is Wild need more out of a 4Nations standout shutdown D & didn't get it. Great game by Boldy & sic pass by Kaprisov on his 1st goal! On to late Tuesday night! lol

i agree. thought gus was fine. he'll want the 1st and 3rd back but that first is a snipe. he made some massive saves as well and Vegas clearly had far more good chances than we did. our margin for error in this series is quite small as we saw last night.
1st goal was really bad. Gus left a giant hole in the only place Hertl had to shoot at from that spot. Calling that an incredible shot is silly. 3rd goal wasn't terrible, but you can't give those up in a playoff game and expext to win.
I don't put much blame on Gustavsson either, but they aren't beating Vegas if Hill outplays him.
in 28 minutes Faber was over 70% in both scoring chances and high danger scoring chances for and right at 70% for expected goals. Those are really good numbers for a defenseman.@koho I guess the point is Wild need more out of a 4Nations standout shutdown D & didn't get it. Sounds like the officiating crew from vs UMass found a nice, soft landing spot?

I’ve replied with similar replies on social media. So many comments are “It’s Hartman, he deserves it”. “It’s playoff hockey, the stripes swallow the whistles”.
My replies are “If you saw the Minnesota/UMASS game, you’ll understand what swallowing whistles could lead too”. And “Regardless of the player, if the stripes will call it on a player for dishing it out, they have to call in when received”.

From Bring me the News writer; "they found themselves down 1-0 when Tom Hertl dazzled by putting a puck in a tiny opening after tying up Brock Faber's stick..."
But yeah, every Bantam player is hitting that shot within a second of taking possession...
How was Gus supposed to play that differently? In about a second's time, puck went from looking like Faber had it cleared to being a shot in near upper corner.
im not sure what a quote from "bring me the news" is supposed to do for your argument? The goal was on television, there a clips of it all over the internet. It's not hard to see that Hertl had about a 12×12 inch hole to shoot at from about 2o feet? That's not a difficult shot for a hockey player.1st goal was really bad. As for what Gustavsson could have done differently. If he just stays on his feet and sides to the post, that puck hits him in the stomach.
ESPN NHL probably doesn't know anything either, but they're calling it a "filthy goal."

Like every goalie on the planet is trained to do nowadays, Gus was down to cover the ice, and that left a (more like) 3" x 8" opening to shoot through. *tips hat to Hertl*
I didn't think the Wild looked bad. They had some great opportunities and some great puck possession times. This game was closer than the score for sure. Vegas is disgustingly good (I hate how the NHL made sure they would be from day 1) and I wasn't even expecting the Wild to get into the playoffs. My expectations start to change next season and really the season after though.

Don't bother, he’s always right
I mean that hole might have been 12x12 when it started, but it certainly wasn’t when the puck went through. So to pick the exact spot there would still be an opening as the goalie squeezed the pipe seems to be a lot of talent and a little luck.
But this is coming from someone who couldn’t hit a 12x12 opening probably more than 1/10 times. If that; and without a goalie. 🤣
Zeev a little hesitant at times tonight.not terrible but he needs to react faster.
Understatement. You'd think it was a meaningless regular season game. Crazy he's playing.

Shitty screen shot, but that pic is after the puck is already in the net.

Hot take: the Vegas pregame crap is stupid…”it’s Knight time”…?…lame
Rossi on the 4th line, good stuff.
Finally a couple good shifts by Hartman and Eks lines
Kaprisov with a chance in the slot and passes
That was a crazy stat they mentioned (which I will get wrong here) for 2 reasons. They said the Wild are (24-2?) with Kaprizov in the lineup. 1) that's an incredible WIN% with one guy and 2) that's a s**t ton of games missed.
Wild playing a bit on their heels now. Need to reverse that if they want to get out of the period up 2.
McNabb takes himself out of the play trying to end Zuccarello, Zuccarello skates down the ice and scores.

I saw the Wolves pulled it to within 11 and then whoops...
13 & 15 are sleds out there. If you’re not going to score, you better be physical. They are neither.
4th line barely holding on at times.
Why am I still so surprised how good Faber is in the NHL…
Did Hartman just get cross checked in the head at the end of the period and no call?
